ALDER is the tree of fire. In the legend of the battle of the trees, it fought in the very front line and is described as the tree that is hottest in fight. It is associated with courage and represents the evolving spirit. From alder one can make three different dyes: red from the bark, green from the flowers, brown from the twigs. This symbolizes the elements of fire, water and earth. Whistles are made of this wood to summon the four winds. It is also the ideal wood for making magical pipes and flutes.
